CoppaFeel! case study
CoppaFeel! is a UK-based breast cancer awareness charity committed to making chest-checking accessible, inclusive, and second nature for all young people.
Why they came
CoppaFeel! wanted to ensure their breast cancer awareness resources were truly inclusive, especially for minoritised, neurodivergent, and disabled audiences.
While they had always aimed for inclusive language, they recognised the need for a structured audit to evaluate how effectively their message was being received and where unintentional barriers might exist.
What we did
We conducted a full communications audit across their physical resources, digital content, volunteer training platform, school presentation decks, and chest-checking web app.
The process included:
Technical accessibility testing (contrast, structure, readability)
Informal user feedback from people with lived experience of disability
Biweekly reflection sessions to share findings and adapt in real-time
A 100+ page audit report, a practical comms guide, and live training for staff.
“We’d never had a clear assessment on whether our message was actually reaching people, or how to improve it.”
The impact
CoppaFeel! now has the tools and confidence to communicate more clearly, inclusively, and effectively across all channels.
The audit:
Reduced uncertainty and time spent debating “what’s accessible”
Sparked internal culture change around inclusive communications
Created a structure to embed accessibility into future resource design
“Ettie’s work wasn’t just insightful - it was joyful, clear, and transformative. This audit will help us save lives by reaching more people with our message.”
